Abstrak Mustho`atun, (A 121 16 101). This skripsi entitles “Teaching Reading Comprehension of the Eighth Grade Students at SMP Negeri 3 Mepanga through Preview, Question, Read, Summarize and Test (PQRST) Strategy”. English Education Study Program of Language and Art Department of Tadulako University, under the Supervision of Abdul Kamaruddin. The objective of this research is to find out if using Preview, Question, Read, Summarize, and Test (PQRST) strategy is effective in teaching reading comprehension of the eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 3 Mepanga. This research applied quasi-experimental research design. The research sample were VIIIB as the control group which consisted of 23 students and VIIIC as the experimental group which consisted of 31 students. The sample of this research was selected by using cluster random sampling technique. The instrument used in collecting the data are pre-test and post-test. The treatment was given for six times. The data were analyzed statistically in order to know the significant difference between the pre-test and post-test results. The researcher found that the mean score of the experimental group in the pre-test and post-test were 53.27 and 73.54. The mean score of control group in the pre-test and post-test were 53.66 and 54.40. Consulting to the t-table score by applying the degree of freedom (df) (31 + 23– 2=52) and 0.05 of level significant, the researcher found that the value of t-counted 5.01 was higher than the value of t-table 1.98. the result of the data analyzed shown that the hypothesis is accepted. In other word, the application of the PQRST strategy can improve students' reading comprehension skills of the eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 3 Mepanga.
