Abstrak
ABSTRACT Mery Andani, A 121 16 100. A Study on the Implementation of Know Want Learn (KWL) Strategy in Teaching Reading Comprehension under the Supervision of Konder Manurung. The aim of this research is to describe the implementation of Know Want Learn (KWL) strategy in teaching reading. This research used library research Method. The data were collected from documents on the implementation of Know Want Learn Strategy from 2010-2020. There are academic write used as the secondary data. Yuniarti (2013), Riswanto, Risnawati & Lismayanti (2014), Sinambela, Manik & Pangaribuan (2015), Mardianti, Manurug, & Usman (2016), Yanti(2017), Mahdi’s Study (2018), Kusumaninggrum & Widianto (2018), Setyawan (2018), Usman, Fatah, & Pratiwi (2018), and Sinurat & Lumbangaol (2019). The data based on the secondary sources were analayzed based on Ogle (1986). There are several steps to do, they are 1). Choose a suitable text to the students’ level. 2). Make a KWL chart to write information. 3). Brainstorm the words, terms, or phrases that associate with a topic. The teacher and students write these associations in the K column of their charts. 4). Ask the students to discuss about what they wrote in the K column. 5). Ask students what they want to learn about the topic. The teacher and students write these questions in the W column of their charts. 6). Ask the students read the whole text and fill out the L column of their charts. Students should look for the answer to the questions in their W column while they are reading. Students can fill out their L column either during and after reading. 7). Discuss the information that students fill in the L column. Make sure all the questions in the L column are answered based on the text read. Based on the data analyzed, the objective of the research could be proved. Based on the procedure implementation by the researcher in the secondary sources, the implementation of the Know Want Learn Strategy are varied based on the researches. Although the procedure are varied but still effective to improve students reading comprehension. Key Words: Reading Comprehension, Know Want Learn Strategy
