Abstrak
ABSTRACT Muahamd Triono, (A12116084). This skripsi entitles “Improving Reading Comprehension of the Eighth Grade Students at SMP Satap Negeri 1 Bolano Lambunu Through Herringbone Technique”. English Education Study Program of Language and Art Department of Tadulako University, under the Supervision of Jamiluddin. The objective of this research is to to know whether Herringbone Technique is effective to improve students’ reading comprehension of the eighth grade students at SMP Satap Negeri 1 Bolano Lambunu. This research applied quasi-experimental research design. The research sample were VIIIA as the control group which consisted of 18 students and VIIIB as the experimental group which consisted of 19 students. The sample of this research was selected by using total sampling technique. The instrument used in collecting the data are pre-test and post-test. The treatment was given for five times. The data were analyzed statistically in order to know the significant difference between the pre-test and post-test results. The researcher found that the mean score of the experimental group in the pre-test and post-test were 31..33 and 38.77. The mean score of control group in the pre-test and post-test were 36.48 and 39.07. Consulting to the t-table score by applying the degree of freedom (df) (18 + 19– 2=35) and 0.05 of level significant, the researcher found that the value of t-counted 2.8 was higher than the value of t-table 1.68. the result of the data analyzed shown that the hypothesis is accepted. In other word, the application of Herringbone technique can improve students' reading comprehension of the eighth grade students at SMP Satap Negeri 1 Bolano Lambunu.
