Abstrak Arya Setiawan (2021). This skripsi is entitled “Improving Reading Comprehension of the Eighth Grade Students of SMP Negeri 1 Toribulu Through Directed-Reading Thinking Activity” English Education Study Program, Department of Language and Art Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Tadulako University, under the supervision of Aminah. This research aims at findings out the use of Directed Reading Thinking Activity to Reading Comprehension of the Eighth Grade Students’ of SMP Negeri 1 Toribulu. The researcher applies a quasi-experimental research design. The sample is selected by using cluster sampling technique. The instruments of data collection are pre-test and post-test. The pre-test is used to measure the prior knowledge of the students and the post-test is to measure the result of the students’ comprehension after being given the treatment. The result of data analysis indicates that there is significant difference between the result of pre-test and post-test. The mean score of experimental class significantly developed from 41.25 to 69.29. Meanwhile the mean score of control class developed from 59.11 to 70.00. Based on the result of pre-test and post-test, it is found that the t-counted is 6.26. By applying the degree of freedom (df) 54 with the level of the significance (0.05), it is found that the t-table (2.005). It shows that t-counted (6.26) is greater than t-table (2.005). Furthermore, it means that the hypothesis is accepted. Thus, the use of Directed Reading Thinking Activity is effective to improve the reading comprehension of the Eighth Grade Students of SMP Negeri 1 Toribulu.
