Abstrak Nafa (A 121 16 074). “Improving Reading Comprehension of Grade X Students at SMA Negeri 1 Sigi through Group Discussion Method”. Teacher Training and Education Faculty, English Language Education Study Program, Tadulako University. Under the Supervision of Mawardin M. Said. This research is to investigate whether students’ reading comprehension can be improved through group discussion method of grade X at SMA Negeri 1 Sigi or not. It applied quasi-experimental research design. The samples were 34 students consisted of two classes, namely experimental class (15) and control class (19). The sample was selected by purposive sampling technique. The experimental class (X MIPA3) was given treatments by applying group discussion method in improving reading comprehension, while the control class (X MIPA2) was taught conventionally. The data was collected through observation, field notes, and tests.The result of the mean score in pre-test for the experimental class is 54.93 while the control class is 56 and the result of the mean score in post-test of the experimental class is 76.53 and the control class is 68.63. The data was analyzed statistically by using t-test. As the result, there is a significant difference between the result in the pretest and the posttest. By applying 0.05 level of significance and 32 degree of freedom (df), it is found out that the value of t-counted is 2.49and t-table was 1.68, so that t-counted value was higher than t-table value. It means that the research hypothesis is accepted. In other words, the application of Group Discussion Method can improve Reading Comprehension of grade x students at SMA Negeri 1 Sigi.
