Abstrak
ABSTRACT Andy Kurniawan (A 121 16 062). Teachers' Perception Toward the Effective Technique in Teaching Reading Comprehension, under the Supervision of Nur Sehang Thamrin. This research aims at finding out the techniques of teaching reading and the teachers' perception toward the effective techniques in teaching reading comprehension. This research applied a qualitative research design. The subject of this research was an English teacher at Junior High School. The instruments of this research were a questionnaire sheet and an interview. The result of the research found that 4 techniques used by the teacher in teaching reading comprehension; close reading skill, scanning and skimming, retelling story, and guided reading. Close reading skills make the teacher have an endless way to teach the students during the process of approaching the text, such as asking questions, annotate the important message, etc. Scanning and skimming can help the students to find out the main idea of the text quickly without reading and translate every word in the text. Retelling Story can help the students more easily to learn how to organize the text and it can improve their vocabulary and their comprehension skill. Guided reading allows the teacher to organize the activity in the classroom such as giving orders and asking questions. Keywords: Perception, Teaching Techniques, Teaching Reading Comprehension.
