Abstrak
ABSTRACT Risda (A 121 16 047). The Application of Storytelling Technique to Improve Speaking Skill of Grade X Students at SMA Negeri 1 Sojol. Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Language and Art Department, English Language Education Study Program, Tadulako University. Under the Supervision of Sriati Usman. This research aims to find out that Storytelling technique can improve speaking skill of grade X students at SMA Negeri 1 Sojol. The approach of this study was quantitative. The subject of the research is the second years students of SMA Negeri 1 Sojol. This research is classified as pre-experimental research design. It involved 27 students as the experimental class. They were selected by using purposive sampling technique. The instruments used were speaking test (pre-test and post-test) and questionnaire (likert scale) given to the experimental class. The result of data analysis indicated that there was a significance result of pre-test and post-test after getting storytelling technique as a treatment. The mean score showed there was an increase between the pre-test (42.12) and the post-test (62.03). Based on the result of the pre-test and post-test, the researcher found the values of t-counted is 4.485. By applying degree of freedom (df) (27-1) and 0.05 level of significance, the resercher found the t-table value is 1.706 which indicated the value of t-counted (4.485) is higher than t-table value (1.706).
