Abstrak ABSTRACT Annisa Nur Iman (A 121 16 017). Improving Students’ Reading Comprehension through Question-Answer Relationship (QAR) Strategy At The Eighth Grade Of SMP Astra Makmur Jaya. Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Language and Art Department, English Language Education Study Program, Tadulako University. Under the Supervision of Darmawan. The objective of this research is to find out whether the Question-Answer Relationship strategy can improve students’ reading comprehension in the eighth grade of SMP Astra Makmur Jaya or not. This research applied a quasi-experimental research design. The samples of this research were Perumahan Pabrik as the experimental class that consisted of 15 students and Desa Bumi Jaya as control one that consisted of 15 students. They were selected by using cluster random sampling that taking the sample based on the area of residence of students. The instrument of data collection was tested that was divided into pre-test and post-test. There is a significant difference between pre-test and post-test. It can be seen at the mean score of both tests’ results, the mean score of the experimental group significantly increased from 40,8 to 68.66. The mean score of the control group improved from 34.8 to 55.2. Based on the result of the pre-test and post-test, the researcher found that the value of t-counted is 3.96. By applying the degree of freedom (df) 28 (15+15-2) and 0.05 level of significance, the researcher found that the value of the t-table is 1.701 which shows that the value of t-counted (3.98) is higher than the value of t-table (1.701).
