Abstrak Afdalia (A12116007). This Skripsi entitles, An Analysis of The ESA (Engage, Study, and Activate) Method in Improving Students’ Speaking Skills. Skripsi, English Education Study Program, Language and Art Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Tadulako University, under the supervision of Konder Manurung. The objective of the research was intended to explore some theories and previous related research findings from the analysis in the application of the ESA method in speaking skills. In this research, the researcher used library research. The primary data source is Jeremy Harmer (2001; 2007). The secondary data sources are collected from the studies conducted by Abdul Ayiz (2014), Illinawati, Sudarsono, and Regina (2015/2016), Yulia Nuzulul Hidayah and Harjali (2017), and Agus Rahmat (2019). The results show that the ESA method is implemented through Straight Arrows, Boomerang, or Patchwork (the same procedure from the 4 secondary data). The effect of the implementation of the ESA method shows that the students speaking skills are improved. These kinds of activities are enjoyable for students. When the teacher provides an enjoyable classroom experience for students, it helps the students to be easier to study. Additionally, the ESA method applicable for all levels. In other words, the ESA method is helpful for the students from beginner up to upper-intermediate. It implies that the teachers of English are recommended to apply ESA to teach Speaking at all levels of education. Keywords: Engage, Study and Activate Method; Speaking |
