Abstrak
ABSTRACT AYU PRATIWI (A 121 15 249). This Skripsi is entitled USING STORY TELLING TECHNIQUE TO IMPROVE SPEAKING SKILL OF THE TENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMAN 6 PALU, under the supervision of Rofiqoh. The objective of this research is to find out whether the use of story telling technique is effective to improve speaking skill of the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 6 Palu. This research used a quasi experimental research design involving two classes of students as experimental and control classes. In collecting the data, the students were asked to retell the story by using story telling technique. The data were analyzed by using statistical analysis. The results show that there are significant differences between the results of the pretest and posttest. The pretest mean score of experimental class was 51.28 while the one of the control class was 59.6. After giving the treatment, the mean score of experimental class in posttest was 86.47 and the one of the control group was 73.3. It also shows that the t-counted (5.6) is higher than the t-table (2.0231) The data indicates that the story telling technique fairly contributes the improvement of the speaking skill of SMA Negeri 6 Palu. Fairly influence means that this technique affects the improvement of speaking skill, but it needs other techniques to be combined in order to make this technique become very effective.
