| Abstrak Lila Indira (A 121 15 228).“Developing Speaking Skill of Grade VIII Students at SMP Negeri 1 Palu Through Genre Based Instruction”. Skripsi, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Department of Language and Art Education, English Language Education Study Program, under the supervision of Mawardin M. Said. The objective of this research was to find out that the use of Genre Based Instruction was effective to develop the skill of the eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Palu to Speak Recount text. The research applied quasi-experimental design. The samples were students of class VIII Dewa Ruci consisting of 31 students as the experimental group and class VIII Tadulako was 32 students as the control group. They were selected by purposive sampling technique. To collect the data, test which was divided into pre-test and post-test, was used as the research instrument. The mean score of pre-test for the experimental group and control group was 38.53 and 36.45 respectively. The mean score of the post-test for the experimental group and control group was 79.16 and 68.74. By applying the degree of freedom (df) 61 and % 5 of the significance level, this research indicates that the t-counted value (2.40) is higher than the t-table (1.67). In other words, the hypothesis of this research is accepted. It implies that Clustering technique is effective to develop Speaking skill of the eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Palu. |
