| Abstrak ABSTRACT Indah Puji Lestari A (2021).“An Analysis of Students Ability in Writing Descriptive Text at Grade Eight of SMP Negeri 1 Sindue” Skripsi. English Education Faculty, Tadulako University, under supervision of Darmawan. The objective of this research is to analyze the students’ ability in writing at SMP Negeri 1 Sindue in using descriptive text. This type of research was qualitative research. The population of this research was eight grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Sindue consisting of 04 classes. The researcher used the purposive sampling technique, there were 20 students as a sample from 106 students. To collect the data, the researcher used a test. The test was conducted to find out students’ dominant level ability in writing descriptive text conducted as supporting data for this study. The data shows that 12 students score below 65 (low category and incompetent), there were 2 students scored between 66-76 (middle category and incompetent), and 6 students score between 77-100 (high category and competent). Based on data analysis, the dominant level ability of the students in the eighth-grade students SMP Negeri 1 Sindue to write descriptive text is low level (incompetent). It is proved by the finding that most of the students got middle level and low levels that have not reached the standard passing grade (KKM) and are categorized as incompetent. The problems faced by the students were many grammatical errors, misspellings, does not use the punctuation well, and unable to select the appropriate diction.
