Abstrak
ABSTRACT Riszki Bela Siswoyo. A12115222. Developing Students’ Speaking Skill at Grade X SMK Muhammadiyah Palu through Genre Based Instruction Method, under the supervision of Konder Manurung The objective of this research is to investigate whether or not genre based instruction method can develop speaking skills of the grade x students at SMK Muhammadiyah Palu. This research applied a quasi-experimental research involving experimental and control groups. The samples are class x DPIB (Desain Permodelan dan Informasi Bangunan) as the control group and class x PBS (Perbankan Syariah) as the experimental groups. They were selected by using purposive sampling technique. The instrument of data collection, the researcher gave pretest and posttest for both groups. The data were analyzed statistically by applying t-test formula. The result of the data analysis shows that there is a significant difference between control and experimental result. The mean score of the experimental group students in posttest is 59.21. While the mean score of control group students is 43.33. By applying 0.05 level of significance and 32 degree of freedom (df), it is found that the value of the t-counted is 6.67 and the t-table is 1.69. The t-counted value higher than t-table value, which means that the implementation of genre-based instruction method can develop students speaking skill of the grade x students at SMK Muhammadiyah Palu.
