Abstrak
ABSTRACT Rosanna Apriana, A 121 15 211. The Implementation of Collaborative Technique to Improve Writing Ability to the Tenth Grade Students of SMAN 1 Palu. Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Language and Art Department, English Education Study Program. Skripsi, under the supervision of Sriati Usman. The objective of this research is to prove that using collaborative technique is effective to improve students’ writing ability. This research took place at SMA Negeri 1 Palu employing quasi-experimental research design. The research samples were X IPA 5 as the experimental group and IPA 4 as the control group. They were selected by using purposive sampling technique. The data was analyzed statistically in order to know the significance of improvement of the students in both pretests and posttests. After analyzing the data, the result of the research shows that there is a significant improvement of the students’ writing after applying collaborative technique to the students. The mean score of the experimental group before the treatment is 50 while the control group is 46.82. After the treatment, the mean score of the experimental group is 70.65 and the control group is 57.93. Referring to the t-table value by applying the degree of freedom (df) 40 (21+21-2) and 0.05 level of significance, the researcher found that the result of the t-counted was 3.15 is higher than the t-table 1.684. It shows that the hypothesis of this research is accepted. It means that using collaborative technique can improve students’ writing ability at SMA Negeri 1 Palu.
