Abstrak ABSTRACT Febrianti, 2019. The Effectiveness of Four Corners Strategy to Speaking Skill of Grade Eight Students at SMP Negeri 18 Palu, under the Supervision of Konder Manurung. The objective of this research is to find out whether or not the effectiveness of Four Corners Strategy improves the grade eight students speaking skill of SMP Negeri 18 Palu. The researcher applied quasi-experimental research design. The research sample was VIIIB as the experimental group consisted of 26 students and VIIID as the control group consisted of 22 students. The sample was drawn by applying purposive sampling technique. The research data were collected by using oral test which was used as pre-test and post-test. The pre-test was conducted to measure the students’ speaking skill before the treatment, while the post-test was conducted to measure the students’ speaking skill after the treatment. The result of the data analysis showed that the mean scores of the experimental group on the pre-test and the post-test were (32.21) and (53.12). The mean scores of the control group on the pre-test and the post-test were (32.39) and (47.44). The results of the test were analyzed statistically by applying t-test formula. The results shows that there is a significant difference between the result of the tests in the experimental group and the control group. By applying one-tailed test at 0.05 level of significance with 46 degree of freedom (df). It is found out that the t-counted value, 2.88 is higher than t-table value, 1.679. It implies that the hypothesis is accepted. Hence, the use of Four Corners Strategy is effective to improve students’ speaking skill of grade eight students at SMP Negeri 18 Palu.
