Abstrak
Alfian Ferdian Tompunu (2021). This Skripsi is entitled Developing Speaking Skill of Grade Eleven Students at MA Alkhairaat Pusat Palu through Implementation of Role-play Technique, English Education Study Program, Language and Art Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Tadulako University, under the supervision of Rofiqoh. The objective of this research is to find out whether or not the implementation of Role-play technique can develop speaking skill. This quasi-research population was grade eleven students of MA Alkhairaat Pusat Palu. The sample was selected by using a random sampling technique. 19 Students from grade XI MIA 2 were as the experimental group and 19 students from XI SOSIAL were as the control group. To assess the students’ speaking skill, the instrument used was a test of speaking. The students were asked some questions related to the topic twice as pre-test and post-test. To get the mean score from each class, the researcher summed the students’ scores and the result divided with the number of students in each class. Based on the data analysis, the result of post-test showed the experimental group got 71.68 and the control group got 65.77. To get the deviation score, the researcher computed each student’s pre-test and post-test score. From the result of the score deviation, the researcher computed the mean deviation of both classes to get sum-square deviation score. Then the researcher continued using the result to find out t_counted using t_test formula. The result shows that the t_counted (2.89) is higher than the t_table (1.69). It indicates that the implementation of Role-play technique can develop speaking skill of the grade eleven students of MA Alkhairaat Pusat Palu. The implication of this finding to the betterment of teaching speaking is that the teacher needs to use the role-play technique during teaching and learning process.
