Abstrak ABSTRACT Ishak Mulhak (A 121 15 162). Improving Speaking Skill Through Contextual Teaching and Learning of The Eight Grade at SMP Negeri Model Terpadu Madani, under the supervision Konder Manurung. The objective of this research is to investigate whether or not the use of Contextual Teaching and Learning can improve speaking skill of eighth grade student at SMP Negeri Model Terpadu Madani. This research applied quasi-experimental research design in which the sample consisted of experimental group and control group. The samples were selected by using purposive sampling technique. The data were collected by using oral test. The test was given on pre-test and posttest. The result of the data analysis showed that the mean score of experimental class before the treatment was 51.79 while the control class was 56.25. After giving the treatment, the mean score of experimental class of posttest was 85.12 while the control group was 67.5. It indicates that the mean score has increased. Additionally, the researcher used 0.05 level of significance and 39 degree of freedom (df). Thus, the tcounted was 4.46, while ttable is 1.68. It proved that the hypothesis was accepted. In conclusion, the use of contextual teaching and learning can improve students speaking skill of the eight grade students at SMP Negeri Model Terpadu Madani.
