Abstrak
ABSTRACT Anissa Septiana (A 121 15 155). “Using Walking Gallery Technique to Improve Students’ Writing Ability in Descriptive Text of the Seventh Grade at SMP Negeri 1 Parigi Selatan”, Skripsi, English Education Study Program, Language and Art Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Tadulako University, under the supervision of Nadrun. The objective of this research is to find out that the use of walking gallery technique is effective to improve the ability of the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Parigi Selatan to write descriptive text. This research applied quasi experimental design involving two sample groups – experimental and control group. The population of the research was consisted 30 students of the seventh grade of SMP Negeri 1 Parigi Selatan. They were taken by employing purposive sampling technique. The data were collected by using test – pre-test and post-test. Pre-test was used to measure prior knowledge of the students while post-test was used to measure the improvement of students’ ability after given the treatment. The data were analyzed statistically in order to find out the significant difference of the students’ achievement both in pre-test and post-test. The result of data analysis shows that the t-counted value (2.51) was higher than t-table value (1.701) by applying 0.05 level of significance and the degree of freedom was 28 (df = 15 + 15 – 2 = 28). In conclusion, the use of walking gallery technique can improve the ability of the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Parigi Selatan in writing descriptive text.
