Abstrak
ABSTRACT Vani Goma (A121151119). The Implementation of Rote Learning Strategy to Increase Vocabulary Mastery of the Eight Grade Students at SMP Negeri 2 Palu. A skripsi,English and Education Study Program.Language and Arts Education Department,Teacher Training and Education Faculty.Tadulako University. It is under the supervision of Nur Sehang Thamrin. The objective of this research is to prove that using Rote Learning Strategy can increase vocabulary mastery of the eight grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Palu. This research applied a quasi-experimental research design with 60 students as sample. The samples were class VIII D as the experimental group, and class VIII I as the control group. The samples were selected by using a purposive sampling technique. The instrument of data collection is a test (pre-test and post-test). The data gathered were analyzed statistically. The result of the data analysis shows that there is a significant difference between the result of the pre-test and post-test. It was proved by seeing the mean score of the test result where the mean score of the experimental group significantly improved from 50.91 to 71.5. Meanwhile, the mean score of control group improved from 54.33 to 61.41. Then, the researcher calculated the t-counted in order to find out the significant difference in the students’ ability. By applying 0,05 level of significance and 58 degree of freedom (df), the researcher found out the value of t-counted (4.470)is higher than t-table of value (1.672). It can be concluded that the research hypothesis is accepted. In other words, implementing Rote Learning Strategy can increase vocabulary mastery of the eight grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Palu.
