Abstrak Sri Sundari (A 121 151 12). Improving the Students’ Speaking Skill by Using Chain Drill Technique at the Eight Grade Students of SMP Negeri 20 Palu. A skripsi. English and Education Study Program. Language and Arts Education Department. Teacher Training and Education Faculty. Tadulako University. It is under the supervision of Nadrun. The objective of this research is to find out whether or not the implementation of Chain Drill Technique can improve the speaking skill of the eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 20 Palu. This research applied a quasi-experimental research design with 35 students as sample. The samples were VIIIC as the experimental group, and VIIIB as the control group.The sample of this research was selected by using purposive sampling technique. The instrument of data collection was test (pre-test and post-test). The data gathered were analyzed statically. The result of the data analysis shows that there is a significant difference between the result of the pre-test and the post-test. It was proved by seeing the mean score of the test result where the mean score of the experimental group has significantly improved from 33,79 to 65,28. Meanwhile, the mean score of control group improved from 36,27 to 51,47. Then, the researcher computed the t-counted in order to find out the significant difference in the students’ ability. By applying 0,05 level of significance and 33 degree of freedom (df), the researcher found out the value t-counted (3.779) is higher than the t-table value (2.0357). It can be concluded that the research hypothesis is accepted. In other words, implementing Chain Drill Technique can improve speaking skill of the eight grade students of SMP Negeri 20 Palu. keywords: Speaking Skill, Improving, Chain Drill Technique. |
