Abstrak

English Education Study Program, Language and Art Education Department, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Tadulako University. Under the supervision of Nadrun. This study was conducted through Library Research Design which aimed at explaining the application of Mind Mapping Technique to improving reading comprehension of EFL students at two different academic levels. Mind Mapping is defined as a visual record that helps EFL students to distinguish words or ideas, often with colors and symbols which purposed to assist EFL students to understand, comprehend, and enjoy their reading comprehension learning experience. Moreover, the data described in this research were taken from the ones conducted within 2012-2019. The result of descriptive analysis showed that the application of Mind Mapping Technique by three different experts on two different academic levels was done through reviewing the text being learned by EFL students, dividing the EFL students to groups, instructing the EFL students to comprehend the text first, understanding the key points of the text, creating some mapping in a piece of blank paper, using colored pencils, pen, or pictures, and answering the questions provided. In addition, the application of Mind Mapping Technique also adjusted the general overviews of exploiting the EFL students’ background knowledge, building strong vocabulary, supervising the EFL students’ vocabulary, and helping the EFL students’ understand key information in the text provided. Eventually, by examining the previous statements, it can be concluded that Mind Mapping Technique and reading comprehension are a good combination to deal with reading comprehension issues.
