| Abstrak LilisSavarina (A 121 15 097).“Identifying Speaking Skill of Grade X Students at SMA Negeri 1Bungku Tengah”.SkripsiEnglish Education Study Program, Department of Language and Art Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, TadulakoUniversity.Under the supervision of Mawardin M. Said. The objectives of this research are to identifyand describe the students’ level of speaking and the difficulties faced by the grade X students of SMA Negeri 1 Bungku Tengah in speaking skill. This research was conducted through descriptive qualitative research design. Depending on the data analysis of the students’ speaking on fluency and accuracy, it is found that the students’ level in speaking is on poor level since they have limited knowledge in English. In line with it, the students are only able to use basic and commonly-used expressions during the interview. Most of them understood the questions, yet some of them found it difficult to respond to the questions immediately. Furthermore, the problems faced by the students regarding speaking are pronunciation and lack of vocabulary.Pronunciation problem in speaking was signified by the mispronunciation they committed during the interview; and the problem in vocabulary was signified by the fact that the students produced long pauses during the interview because they tried to find correct vocabulary.
