Abstrak ABSTRACT Sri Wahyuni (A 121 15 096). The skripsi is entitled “Using Process Approach to Improve Students' Writing Ability of the Tenth Grade At SMK Negeri Tolitoli.” Under the Supervisor of Sriati Usman. The objective of this research aims to find out whether the use of Process Approach can improve writing ability of the tenth grade at SMK Negeri 1 Tolitoli or not. The researcher applied quasi-experimental research design. The sample of this research was 28 students of X FM2 as the experimental class and 28 students of X PK1 as the control class. The samples were selected by purposive sampling technique. The instrument of data collection was written tests which were divided into pretest and posttest. The pretest was given to measure the students? writing ability before the treatment. The mean score of experiment class significantly improved from 52.32 to 78.78. Meanwhile the mean score of control class improved from 51.75 to 67.85. The result of the pretest and the posttest was analyzed statistically by applying t-test formula. The result of data analysis shows that the value of t-counted is 3.33. By applying 54 degree of freedom (df) and 0.05 level of significance, it is found out that the value of t-table is 2.0049. It means that the t-counted value is higher than t-table value. In other words, the use of process approach is effective to improve the writing ability of the tenth grade students? at SMK Negeri 1 Tolitoli.
