Abstrak The related of this research is to find out whether the application of Word Chain Game can improve vocabulary mastery of grade VIII students at SMPN 19 Palu or not, especially in mastering noun and verb. The research samples are class VIII D as experimental group consisting 19 students and class VIII E as control group consisting 18 students. They are selected by using cluster random sampling technique. The researcher employed quasi-experimental research design where the two classes were given pretest and posttest. The data were analyzed statistically. The data analysis indicates that there is significant improvement between the results of pretest and posttest of both group. The mean score of the experimental class before the treatment is 46.46, while the control group is 49.97. After giving the treatment, the mean score of experimental class in posttest is 72.66 and the control class is 63.18. it is also shown that the t-counted(4.79) is greater than t-table(1.010). The results indicate that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. Thus, the application of word chain game is effective to improve vocabulary mastery of grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 19 Palu. Keyterms:Word Chain Game, Vocabulary Mastery |
