| Abstrak This research aims to find out the difficulties in vocabulary mastery faced by the students at the ninth-grade of SMP Negeri 17 Palu. The researcher applied descriptive quantitative design by simple random sampling technique to choose the sample. There were 27 samples taken from 15% of the total population. The instruments of data collection was test. The data were collected by giving the test of multiple choice questions. The findings of the research shows that there are most of the students have difficulty in each aspects such as grammar 31,92% of students, pronunciation 27,03% of students, spelling 24,75% of students, and meaning 16,28% of students.
