Cindy Anggraini (A 121 14 215). “The Effectiveness of Guiding Questions in Improving Writing Skill of the Eighth Grade Students of SMP Negeri 1 Ulubongka”. Skripsi. English Education Study Program, Language and Art Education Department, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Tadulako University. Under the supervision of Hasan Basri. The objective of this research is to prove that the use of Guiding Questions Technique is effective to improve the skill of the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Ulubongka in writing recount text. In this research, the researcher used quasi-experimental research design, in which the samples of the research were grades VIII A and VIII B. Additionally, the data of this research were obtained through the test instrument. Afterwards, the obtained data were analyzed statistically in order to find out the significant difference between two groups on the posttest. The result of data analysis shows that there is the significant difference between two groups after the application of Guiding Questions Technique to the experimental group. It is supported by the obtained mean scores of the experimental and control groups are respectively 69.59 and 46.39. Furthermore, referring to the ttable value of df 36 (19+19-2) by using 0.05 level of significance on one-tailed test, it is found that the tcounted value of the research (8.41) is higher than the ttable value (1.69). It means that the hypothesis of the research is accepted. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of Guiding Questions Technique is effective to improve the skill of the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Ulubongka in writing recount text.
