Abstrak
ABSTRACT Febriyanti (A 121 14 208). This skripsi entitled “Using Metacognitive Strategy in Teaching Reading Comprehension of the Tenth Grade Students’ of SMA Negeri 1 Balaesang”. It is under the Supervision of Nur Sehang Thamrin and Shalehuddin. This research aims to prove whether or not using Metacognitive strategy has an effect in improving reading comprehension of the Tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Balaesang. The population of this research was the grade X students at SMA Negeri 1 Balaesang which consists of 100 students. This research applied quasi-experimental research design in which the sample consisted of two groups which were experimental and control class. The research samples were class X MIA 1 as the experimental class and X MIA 2 as the control class which consisted of 20 students for each class, and selected by using purposive sampling technique. In collecting the data, the researcher used test (pretest and posttest). The data were analyzed statistically in order to find out the significant difference of the students’ achievement before and after treatments.The result of the data analysis shows that the t-counted is 6.99 with degree of freedom (df) = 38, level of significance 0.05, and t-table was 2.03. The result shows that tcounted is greater than t-table which means that the hypothesis is accepted. In other words, Using Metacognitive Strategy is effective in Improving Teaching Reading Comprehension of the Tenth Grade Students’ of SMA Negeri 1 Balaesang.
