ABSTRACT Fatmawati (A 121 14 197). Improving Reading Comprehension of Grade X Srudents at SMA Negeri 1 SIGI Through Small Group Discussion. Skripsi. English Education Study Program, Language and Art Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Tadulako University, Under the Supervision of Nursehang. This research aims of this is research is investigatingthe use of Small Group DiscussionMethod to Improve Grade X Students’ readingcomprehensionof Narative Textat SMA Negeri 1 Sigi. The researcher applied quasi experimental research design by using purposive sampling technique to choose the sample. The instruments of data collection were pretest and posttest. The pretest was used to measure prior knowledge of the students and the posttest was used to measure the development of the students’ ability after the treatment. The t-test was analyzed to compare the mean deviation scores of both classes. There is a significant difference score of the deviation between pre-test and post-test of experimental group is (27.39) while the control group (5.89). The level of significance was set up at 0.05 with 63 degree of freedom (df= 34+31-2= 63). The result of data analysis indicates that t-counted which is (8.95) was higher than the t-table (1.998). It means that the hypothesis of the research is accepted. Thus,the use of Small Group Discussion does improves Grade X Students’ Reading Comprehension.
