Abstrak ABSTRACT Hartina (A 121 14 185). “Improving the Ability of Grade Eight Students of SMP Negeri 1 Toribulu in Writing Narrative Text Using Short Animated Stories.” Skripsi, English Education Study Program, Language and Art Education Department, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Tadulako University. Under the supervision of Abdul Kamaruddin. This research objective is to find out if using Short Animated Stories can improve the students’ ability in writing narrative text of grade eight students at SMP Negeri 1 Toribulu. In this research, the researcher applied the quasi-experimental research design and the samples of this research were selected by using purposive sampling technique. Additionally, grade VIII A and VIII B were chosen as the experimental and control groups respectively. The data obtained were then analyzed statistically in order to find out the significant achievement between two groups on the post-test. The results of data analysis notify that there is the significant achievement between two groups after the treatment using Short Animated Stories given to the experimental group. It is shown by having the mean score of the experimental group improves from 77.33 to 92.05. Meanwhile, the mean score of the control group decreases from 81.41 to 78.27. Further, referring to the ttable value of df 48 (25+25-2) by applying 0.05 level of significance on one-tailed test, it is obtained that the tcounted value (14.31) of this research is higher than the ttable value (1.68). Thus, it can be concluded that using Short Animated Stories can improve the students’ ability in writing narrative text of grade eight students at SMP Negeri 1 Toribulu.
