Abstrak ABSTRACT Yusnidar A121 14 166. “The Effectiveness of Pre-Reading Activities to Improve Reading Comprehension of Grade XI Students of SMAN 1 Sojol”. Skripsi. English Education Study Program, Language and Art Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Tadulako University. Under Supervision of Nadrun S.pd, M.pd, M.Ed. The objective of this research is to find out whether the use of pre-reading activities can improve the students’ reading comprehension of grade XI of SMA Negeri 1 Sojol. The researcher applied Quasi-Experimental research design. The population of this research was grade XI students of SMA N 1 Sojol. The purposive sampling technique was used to draw the sample of this research which of consisted 22 students of XI MIA A as the experimental group and 24 students XI MIA B as the control group. The instrument of data collection was tests. The data were analyzed statistically to find out the significant difference of the students’ improvement in pretest and posttest. After analyzing the data, the researcher found out that the mean score of pretest of the experimental group was 51.13 and the posttest was 73.52, while the mean score of pretest of control group was 45.62 and the posttest was 56.87. In analyzing the data, the researcher used 0,05 as a level of significance and 44 (22+24-2) degree of freedom (df). The t- counted value was 7.47 and the t-table was 1.68. the t-counted value was greater than t-table value. It means that the hypothesis was accepted. In other words, the use of pre-reading activities can improve students’ reading comprehension of Grade XI of SMA Negeri 1 Sojol.
