Abstrak
ABSTRACT Rizka Lestary (2019) Improving Vocabulary Mastery of the Eighth Grade Students at SMP Negeri 14 Palu through Translation Method. Skripsi, English Education Study Program, Language and Art Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty. Tadulako University, under the supervision of Ferry Rita and Maf’ulah. The objective of this research is to find out whether the implementation of Translation Method can improve vocabulary of the Eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 14 Palu or not. The research design was quasi experimental research. The population was the Eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 14 Palu, which include 43 students of both classes. The sample was Garuda class as the experimental group and Cendrawasih class as the control group. Total sampling was used in choosing the sample. Test was used to collect the data, which consisted of pre-test and post-test. The result of the test showed that the mean score of pre-test of the experimental group was 20.65, while the mean score of the control group was 17.25. Then, the mean score of post-test of the experimental group was 43.69, while the control group was 39.5. the value of t-counted (1.913) was higher than the value of t-table (1.670), which means that the hypothesis is accepted. Based on the result, it can be concluded that the using of translation method can improve vocabulary of the Eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 14 Palu. The result of this research only shows the improvement of students’ vocabulary through the using of Translation Method. Keywords: Improving, Vocabulary, Translation, Method.
