Abstrak
ABSTRACT Novia Adelina (A121 14 150). “Improving Vocabulary Mastery of the Eighth Grade Students through Scrambled letters At SMP Negeri 17 Palu”. Under the supervision of Mochtar Marhum. The objective of this research is to find out if the use of scrambled letters can improve vocabulary mastery of the eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 17 Palu. In this research, the researcher applied the Quasi-Experimental research design. Purposive sampling technique was used to draw the sample of this research which of consisted 32 students of VIII A as the experimental group and 30 students of VIII B as the control group. The data were collected by using pretest and posttest. The pretest was administered to measure the students’ vocabulary mastery before the treatment, while the posttest was administered to measure the improvement of the students’ vocabulary mastery after the treatment. The mean score of pretest of the experimental group was 45.62 while control group was 46.56. The mean score of posttest of the experimental group was 70.41, while control group was 54.88. In analyzing the data the researcher used 0.05 as level of significance and the 60 (32+30-2) degree of freedom (df). The t-counted value was 7.84 and the t-table value was 1.671. The t-counted value was greater than t-table value. It means that the hypothesis was accepted. In other words the use of scrambled letters can improve vocabulary mastery of the eight grade students at SMP Negeri 17 Palu. Keywords: Improving, Scrambled Letters; Vocabulary.
