Abstrak
Andini Faradita (A 121 14 143). Implementation of mapping words strategy to increase vocabulary mastery of Eightg Grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Wita Ponda. Faculty of Teacher Training and Education. Department of Language and Art Education. English Education Study Program, under the supervision of Jamiluddin and Budi. The objectivity of this research is to find out the effect of using mapping words on the English vocabulary of eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Wita Ponda. This research applied quasi-experimental design. The samples were 42 students; 22 students class VIIIA as the experimental group and 20 students of class VIIIB as the control group selected using purposive sampling technique. The data were analyzed statistically in order to find out the significant difference of the students’ achievement before and after treatment. The mean score of the experimental group on the pre-test was 39.91, while the control group was 45.62. Furthermore, the mean score of the experimental group on the post-test was 80.22, while the control group was 72.45. In addition, the t-counted value was 8.8. By using degree of freedom (df) 40 and 0.05 level of significance with one-tailed test, indicated that the value of t-table was 1.684. It is found that the t-counted is higher than t-table. It means that the hypothesis was accepted. In other words, using mapping words can improve the vocabulary of eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Wita Ponda. Keywords: Vocabulary, Mapping Words.
