| Abstrak ABSTRACT Gifarizki M (A 121 14 140). “The Effectiveness of Using Random Text Strategy In Teaching Reading to The Eight Grade Students at SMP Negeri 1 Poso Pesisir utara”. Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Language and Art Department, English Education Study Program, under the supervision of Nur Sehang Thamrin and Anjar Kusuma Dewi. The objective of this research is to find out wether or not the use of random text strategy is effective in Teaching Reading to the eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Poso Pesisir Utara This research used quasi-experimental research design. Purposive sampling technique was employed to draw the sample of this research which is consisted of 20 students of VIII Aas the experimental group and 19 students of VIII B as the control group. The data were collected by using pre-test and post-test. The pre-test was administered to measure the students’ reading comprehension before the treatment, while the post-test was administered to measure the improvement of the students’ reading comprehension after the treatment. The mean score of pre-test of the experimental group was 34.965 while the control group was 39.98. The mean score of the post-test of the experimental group was 66.96 while the control group was 32.9. In analyzing the data, the researcher used 0.05 as level of significance and the 37 (20+19-2) degree of freedom (df). The tcounted was 5.1 and ttablewas 1.687. The tcounted was higher than ttable., It means that the hypothesis was accepted.In other word, the used of random text strategy in teaching reading comprehension is effective.
