A skripsi, English Education Study Program, Language and Art Department, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Tadulako University. It is under the Supervision of Sudarkam R. Mertosono and Zarkiani Hasyim. The purpose of this research is to find out whether using Word Sort strategy increase vocabulary mastery of grade seven students in MTs. Alkhairaat Palu Palu. The population is grade VII in MTs. Alkhairaat Pusat Palu. Researcher applied a quasi-experimental design. The research sample was VII C as a control group consisted of 34 students and VII D as an experimental group consisted of 36 students. The experimental group was treated with the application of the Word Sort Strategy, while the control group was taught vocabulary texts without a specific strategy. The instruments used in collecting data were tests given as pre-test and post-test. Data were analyzed to find out the significant achievements of students in pre-test and post-test. The test results showed that the average score of the experimental group was 77.16 from 46.14 in the pretest, and the control group was 69.28 from 49.35 in the pretest. This score indicates that the average score of the experimental group is higher than the average score of the control group in the posttest. By applying a one-tailed test at a significance level of 0.05 with freedom of 68 degrees (df), it was determined that the value of t-counted (7.69) was greater than t-table (1.66). This confirms that the research hypothesis is accepted. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the Word Sort Strategy is effective to increase the vocabulary of grade seven students in MTs.
