Abstrak
ABSTRACT Kasmini, (2019). “Improving Writing Ability of Grade XI Students 0f SMA Negeri 1 Sirenja through Picture Series.” Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Department of Language and Art Education, English Education Study Program, under the supervision of Ferry Rita and Erniwati. The objective of this research is to find out whether or not using picture series is effective in improving writing ability of grade XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Sirenja. The researcher used quasi-experimental research design. The samples of this research were the students of MIA 1 as the experimental group and MIA 2 as the control group selected by using cluster random sampling technique. The data were analyzed statistically in order to find out the significant difference of the students’ achievement before and after the treatments. The mean score of experimental group on the pretest was 38.5, while the control group was 41.1. The mean score of experimental group on the posttes was 64.0 and the control group was 50.5. Based on the results of the pretest and the posttest, the researcher found that t-counted value was 2.97. By applying degree of freedom (df) 39 (21+20-2) and 0.05 level of significance, it was found that t-table value was 2.02. As the t-counted value (2.97) was higher than t-table value (0.95), the hypothesis was accepted. In other words, using picture series is effective in improving writing ability of grade XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Sirenja. Keywords: Improving; Writing Ability; Picture Series.
