Abstrak ABSTRACT Jeni lapa (A 121 14 022). “A Descriptive Study on the Use of Scaffolded Reading Experience (SRE) Strategy to Improve Reading Comprehension of EFL Students. Skripsi. English Education Study Program, Language and Art Education Department, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Tadulako University. Under the supervision of Konder Manurung. This study was conducted through Library Research Design which aimed at describing five previous studies on the application of Scaffolded Reading Experience (SRE) Strategy in EFL classes of reading comprehension and the effect of SRE Strategy on the EFL students’ reading comprehension at different academic levels. Scaffolded Reading Experience (SRE) Strategy is defined as a set of pre-reading activities, during reading activities, and post-reading activities which purposed to assist EFL students to understand, learn, enjoy, and more importantly comprehend what they read. Moreover, the data described in this research were taken within 2010-2019. The result of descriptive analysis showed that the application of SRE Strategy in five different studies by five different experts on three different levels was done through three reading activities, the pre, during, and post- reading activities which were also referred to as before, during, and after reading activities. The application of this strategy was not only done by depending on this strategy itself, but also done with the help of various supporting media and method, such as KWL graphic organizer, the principle of ZPD (Zone of Proximal Development), and even comparing it with Direct Instruction Method. Relying on the second research question, the EFL students’ reading comprehension after the application of SRE Strategy, it was found that all EFL students on different academic levels within 2010-2019 experienced improvement on their comprehension. This was due to the benefits that SRE Strategy provides to all academic levels. Furthermore, the statistics of the findings found and described from the secondary data sources support the EFL students’ improvement on reading comprehension. To that extent, the EFL students were stimulated to be active and independent in comprehending the key points of reading passages they dealt with. Keywords: SRE Strategy, Reading Comprehension. |
