Abstrak ABSTRACT Sriwahyuni (A12114011). Teaching Vocabulary to the Seventh Grade Students of SMP Negeri 3 Palu through Pegword Method. A skripsi, English Education Study Program, Language and Art Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Tadulako University. Under the supervision of Hasan Basri and Siska Bochari. The objective of this research was finding out the significant improvement of the students’ vocabulary mastery on concrete countable noun and regular-irregular verb using Pegword method to the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Palu. This research was conducted by applying quasi-experimental research design. The sample of this research was seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Palu particularly class B and class C, namely class C as the experimental group and class B as the control group. They were selected through purposive sampling technique. Besides, the treatment was given to the experimental group using pegword method, while the control group was not. The data were collected by using test (pre-test and post-test). The results of the test showed that there was a significant improvement between the pre-test and the post-test. The mean score of experimental group was increased from 46.7 to 65.9 and the control group was increased from 43.6 to 54.9. By applying 0.05 level of significance with the degree of freedom (df) 57 (29 + 29 – 1), the researcher found that the t-counted (4.438) which was higher than t-table (2.002). It means the hypothesis was accepted. In short, the use of pegword method is effective to increase the students’ vocabulary mastery and applicable in teaching vocabulary to the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Palu.
