Abstrak ABSTRACT Nur Wulandari (A 121 13 158). Identifying Speaking Skill of Grade VIII Students at SMPN 1 Kota Palu through Interview Technique. Skripsi, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Department of Language and Art Education, English Language Education Study Program. Under the Supervision of Mawardin M. Said. Speaking is one of the important skills of language. In teaching speaking, there are some techniques that can be used by the teacher. One of them is interview technique. Interview is effectively used in learning speaking because it can stimulate that brain to think. In interview process, the interviewer reveals the questions and the interviewee listens then responds the question. The aim of this research was to identify the Grade VIII students about the use of interview as a learning technique in speaking English. The researcher used a Qualitative Descriptive method in this study. The subjects of this study were Grade VIII C students at SMPN 1 Palu. The total of number population were 209 students. Data were collected collection techniques in this study used interview. To select the sample the researcher used to 10 students as random sampling. The results of this study it is found that five students belongs to fair category (50%) their obtained final score range in 75-80, two students get bad category (20%) their obtained final score range in 41-70; three students get poor category (30%) their obtained final score range in 0-40. There are 5 of 10 students categorized succesful on interview test with ?75 final score. The remaining 5 students are categorized failed on interview test. Based on the results of the research, interview can be a good technique in learning speaking because they could socialize and made interaction with others.
