| Abstrak ABSTRACT The objective of this research is to find out wether or not the use of short moviea as media is effective in teaching vocabulary mastery at The Tenth Grade Students at SMA Negeri 1 Dampal Selatan This research used quasi-experimental research design. Purposive sampling technique was employed to draw the sample of this research which consisted of 25 students of X Ips1 as the experimental group and 25 students of X Mipa1 as the control group. The data were collected by using pre-test and post-test. The pre-test was administered to measure the students watch the short movie before the treatment, while the post-test was administered to measure the improvement of the students’ vocabulary mastery after the treatment. The mean score of pre-test of the experimental group was 46.51 while the control group was 65.25 The mean score of the post-test of the experimental group was 80.33 while the control group was 78.96. In analyzing the data, the researcher used 0,05 as level of significance and the 48 (25+25-2) degree of freedom (df). The tcounted was 2.44 and ttable was 1.67. The tcounted was higher than ttable , it means that the hypothesis is accepted. In other word, the used of short movie as a medium in teaching vocabulary mastery is effective. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk membuktikan efektivitas Metode pembelajaran menggunakan film pendek sebagai media dalam meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam meningkatkan kosa kata tentang siswa kelas sepuluh di SMA Negeri 1 Dampal Selatan. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian kuasi eksperimental. Teknik purposive sampling digunakan untuk menarik sampel penelitian ini yang terdiri dari 25 siswa X ips1 sebagai kelompok eksperimen dan 25 siswa X mipa2 sebagai kelompok kontrol. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan pra-test dan pasca-test. Pra-tes diberikan untuk mengukur kemampuan membaca siswa sebelum perlakuan, sementara pasca-tes diberikan untuk mengukur peningkatan kemampuan membaca siswa setelah perlakuan. Nilai rata-rata pra-test dari kelompok eksperimen adalah 46.51 sedangkan kelompok kontrol adalah 65.25. Nilai rata-rata pasca-test kelompok eksperimen adalah 80.33 sedangkan kelompok kontrol adalah 78.96. Dalam menganalisis data, peneliti menggunakan 0,05 sebagai tingkat signifikansi dan 48 (25 + 25-2) derajat kebebasan (df). Nilai hitung t adalah 2.44 dan nilai tabel t adalah 1.67. Nilai hitung t lebih tinggi dari nilai tabel t, itu berarti hipotesis diterima.
