Abstrak
ABSTRACT Maya Magfira (A 121 13 072). “Improving Reading Comprehension of the Eighth Grade Students at SMPN 19 Palu Through Guided Note Taking Technique”, Under supervision of Mochtar Marhum. The objective of this research is to investigate the effectiveness of Guided Note Taking Technique to improve reading comprehension of the eighth grade students of SMPN 19 Palu. This research used quasi experimental research design. The researcher used purposive sampling technique to select the sample. VIII A was chosen as the experimental group and VIII B as the control group. Data were collected by using pretest to measure the students prior knowledge and the posttest was used to measure the improvement of the students’ ability after the treatment. In analyzing the data, the researcher used 0.05 level of significance and 48 degree of freedom (df). The result shows that the mean score of the experimental group has increased from 49.16 to 76.16. while on the control group has increased from 54.08 to 67.36. the result of the data analysis shows that tcounted value (4.42) is greater than the ttable value (2.0126). it means that the hypothesis is accepted. Bassed on the result, the researcher concludes that using Guided Note Taking technique can be effective to improve reading comprehension of the eighth students at SMPN 19 Palu.
