Abstrak
The objective of this research is to find out whether or not Talking Stick Technique can improve vocabulary mastery of the second grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Balinggi. The researcher used quasi experimental research design with 60 students as the sample selected by using purposive sampling technique. The sample was Grade VIII A as the experimental group that consists of 30 students. The control group was Grade VIII C that consists of 30 students. The treatment was given for the experimental group, while the control group was not. The instrument of data collection was tests (pretest and posttest). The result of the data analysis shows that there was a significant difference between the result of pretest and posttest. It can be seen at the mean score of both tests’ results where the mean score of the experimental group significantly increased from 53,89 to 70,28. Meanwhile, the mean score of the control group increased from 54,72 to 58,61. Based on the result of the pretest and posttest, the researcher found that the value of ???????????????????????????????? was 3,22. By applying degree of freedom (df) 58 and 0,05 level of significance, the researcher found that the value of ???????????????????????? was 2,00 which shows that the value of ???????????????????????????????? (3,22) is higher than the value of ???????????????????????? (2,00). It means that Talking Stick Technique can improve the vocabulary mastery of the second grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Balinggi.
