Abstrak
ABSTRACT Rizal,(A 121 12 160). This skripsi entitles “Improving Speaking Skills Through Genre Based Method of Grade VIII Students at SMP Lab School Untad Palu”. Under the supervision of Nadrun and Nur Sehang Thamrin. The objective of this research is to find out if the use of genre based method can improve students’ speaking skill or not. The researcher applied a quasi-experimental research design. The population of this research was Grade VIII students. The sample of this research was taken by applying purposive sampling technique. The data were collected by conducting pre-test and post-test. The tests were conducted to compare the students’ speaking skill before and after the treatment. The result of the data analysis shows that there is a significant difference between the test result of the experimental group (84.25) and the control group (65.3). by applying two tailed test at 0.05 level of significance with 38 degree of freedom (df) or Nx+Ny = 38, the result of t-counted ( 8.51) is greater than t-table (2.0042). It indicates that the hypothesis is accepted. Hence, the genre based method can improve speaking skill of the students. Keywords: improving, speaking skill, genre based method
