Abstrak ABSTRACT Rudy Setiawan 2019. Increasing Vocabulary Mastery of The Seventh Grade Students of SMP Negeri 2 Banawa Selatan Through Synonyms and Antonyms. Skripsi, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Language and Art Department, English Education Study Program, Tadulako University. Under the supervision of Ferry Rita. The aims of this research is to find out whether or not using synonyms and antonyms can increase vocabulary mastery of the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri Banawa Selatan. The researcher applied quasi experimental research design which involved experimental group and control group. The samples were class VII A as the experimental group and class VII B as the control group. They were selected by using a purposive sampling technique. In collecting the data, the researcher gave pre-test and post-test for both group. The result of the data analysis shows that there is an improvement between the results of post-test of both groups. The mean score of experimental group before the treatment is 30.27, while the control group is 30.00. After giving the treatment, the mean score of experimental group in post-test is 69.77 and the control group is 41.49. It is also shown that the t-counted (6.140) is greater than t-table (1.660.6) which indicates that the research hypothesis is accepted. Thus, the use of synonyms and antonyms can increase the students’ vocabulary mastery especially in mastering noun and descriptive adjective. Keywords: Synonym; Antonym; and Vocabulary Mastery. |
