A Skripsi of English Education Study Program of Language and Art Education Department of Teacher Training and Education Faculty of Tadulako University. Under the supervision of Konder Manurung and Sriati Usman. Considering the importance of speaking as a productive skill, numerous ways are taken by educator to develop learners' speaking ability. In this study, the researcher aimed to find out whether the use of board-games can develop students' speaking ability. By implementing a quasi-experiment, the researcher collected the data from both experimental and control classes of eighth graders at SMP Negeri 1 Palu. 20 students from each class took both pretest and posttest. A statistical analysis was performed using SPSS (Statistic Package for the Social Science) Software to do the homogeneity, normality, and hypothesis testing at .05 level of significance. The findings of this study revealed that the mean scores of pretest from experimental and control groups were 67.78 and 66.67. On the other hand, the mean scores of posttest from experimental and control groups were 86.11 and 67.78. Based on the result of hypothesis testing, the researcher found that the value of Sig. (2 tailed) is .000 in which it is much lower than the significance level of (.05). Therefore, it can be concluded that the hypothesis was accepted which indicated that the mean scores experimental and control classes were significantly different. In this case, the mean score of the experimental class was greater than the one of control class. Hence, there was a significant difference between the posttest and the pretest of experimental class. in other words, it can be said that the use of board-games can develop the speaking ability of the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Palu.
