Abstrak ABSTRACT Halik Nur, Reg Number: (A 121 12 017). Improving Reading Comprehension of the Eighth Grade Students of SMP Negeri 14 Palu By using Guided Reading Strategy. Skripsi. English Education Study Program, Language and Art Education Department. Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Tadulako University, under the Supervision of Mochtar Marhum. This research aimed at finding out whether the use of Guided Reading strategy can improve the students’ reading comprehension or not. The quasi-experimental research design was used in this research. The population was the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 14 Palu. The sample was VIIIB as experimental group and VIIIC as control group selected by using purposive sampling. The instrument of data collection was a test administered twice as pretest and posttest. The pretest was conducted to find out the students’ prior knowledge before treatment whereas the postest was accomplished to measure their knowledge after the treatment. Those data were analyzed statistically. The result of data analysis shows that the t-counted (3.18) was greater than the t-table (2.032) by applying 0.05 level of significance and the degree of freedom (df) was 39. In conclusion, the use of Guided Reading Strategy can improve the students’reading comprehension. Keywords: improving; reading comprehension; guided reading strategy |
