| Abstrak Hasrudin. A121 10 141. Improving the Ability the Eighth Grade Students of SMP Negeri 4 Sigi in Writing Descriptive text trough English brochure. Under the supervision of Anshari Syafar and Budi. The objective of this research is to find out whether the use of English brochure improves the students’ ability in writing descriptive paragraph. The research design was quasi-experimental research with a pre-test and post-test design. The population of this research was the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Sigi. The sample of this research was selected by using purposive sampling technique. The instrument of data collection was tests. The data were analyzed using t-test in order to find out the significant difference of the students’ scores of two groups experimental and control groups. After analyzing the data, it is find out that the result of pre-test of experimental group was 45.27 and the post-test of experimental group was 67.02 and the result of pre-test of control group was 45.79 and post-test of control group 52.91. By applying 0.05 level of significance and 41(between 40-60) degree of freedom (df), it is find out that the t-counted value (9.93) was greater than the t-table value (0.0001). The results of data analysis show that the hypothesis is accepted. It means that the use of English brochure can improve the students’ ability in writing descriptive paragraph.
