Abstrak

Skripsi, English Education Study Program, Language and Art Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Tadulako University. Under the supervision of Ferry Rita and Mashuri. The objective of this research is to prove that the use of Folktales can improve Reading Comprehension of the Eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 5 Sigi. This research applied pre-experimental research design. The research population was the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 5 Sigi. By using purposive sampling, the sample of this research were class VIII B that consist of 22 students. In collecting the data, the researcher applied tests. The test was distributed twice as pre-test and post-test. The pretest was given before the treatment conducted and the posttest was conducted after the treatment. The data from the test was analyzed statistically. After analyzing the test, the researcher found that the mean score of pre-test was 54.5 and the mean score of post-test was 83.5 by applying 0.05 level significant with 21 (22-1) degree of freedom (df), the researcher found the hypothesis (Ha) was accepted because the t-counted value (8) was higher than t-table value (1.721). In other words, the use of Folktales is effective in improving students’ Reading Comprehension, especially for the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 5 Sigi.
