| Abstrak The purpose of conducting this research was to prove whether the students’ speaking skill can be developed by applying Short Conversations or not. This research employed true-experimental design which involved experimental group and control group. The sample of this research was the students of SMP N 2 Dolo (VIIIB and VIIIG). Technique of data collection used only one instrument that is test. The test is in form of oral test consisting pre test and post test. The class was treated by applying Short Conversations technique to develop students’ speaking skill. The writer used a statical analysis to analyze the data. The result of data analysis showed that there was a significant difference between pre-test and post-test. Looking at experimental and control groups, the writer found that there was also a significant difference between the results of those two groups. It was proved by applying the testing hypothesis. The writer found that the t-counted 4,37 were greater than t-table 2,01. It means that the hypothesis was accepted. In conclusion, the application of Short Conversations was effective to developed students’ skill in mastering speaking |
