This research focuses on determining the type of representation of the Toba Batak culture in Ulos. The construction of meaning through language refers to representation. The process of human abstract ideological evolution is organized concretely that begins with the input received by the five human senses. It generates an experience that can be interpreted differently by each individual depending on the knowledge possessed by a person. In a nutshell, concepts such as dialogue, writing, images, videos, films, photography can be used in meaning processes through the accessible marking system. Ulos is the outcome of Batak women's weaving. Every traditional ritual in the Batak society, particularly in the Toba Batak community, includes ulos wearing. The process of distributing ulos (mangulosi) to the Toba Batak community will be carried out following the Dalihan Natolu system, which plays a vital role in every traditional ceremony, including traditional marriage ceremonies, traditional death ceremonies, seven months pregnancy ceremony, and entering a New Home. The following are the most common varieties of Ulos worn in any custom ceremony, such as (a) Ulos worn in the wedding ceremonies are Panssamot, Ulos Holong, Ulos Sadum, (b) Ulos worn in Death ceremonies, are Ulos Saput and Ulos Tujung, Ulos Ragihotang, Ulos Sampetua, and Ulos Holong (c) Ulos worn in the ceremony of entering a new house is Ulos Sampetua (d) Ulos worn in the seven months pregnancy ceremony are Ulos Bintang Maratur and Ulos Mulagabe. Ulos is highly valuable and plays a vital role in the Toba Batak community. Regardless of the traditional celebration, the Toba Batak people will undoubtedly employ Ulos. This Ulos present conveys a message of affection from parents to their children. Musical accompaniment always accompanies the process of offering this Ulos (mangulosi) in the Toba Batak community's traditional marriage and death ceremonies (gondang).
